Posted by doug j. on Dec 18 2007 10:41 AM

todays caller answered:

11 spanish words in the song "Miami" by Will Smith

paul called steve in and asked "what should we do?"

steve's reply was "i guess we dont need to put a hint up now."

but in the end, the answer was wrong.

BZZZT !!

anyways, heres the lyrics for you to peruse, and good luck! :

Artist: Will Smith
Album: Big Willie Style
Title: Miami

Verse 1: Will Smith
Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah
Miami, uh, uh
South Beach, bringin the heat, uh
Haha, can y'all feel that
Can y'all feel that
Jig it out, uh
Here I am in the place where I come let go
Miami the place, and the sunset low
Everyday like a mardi gras, everybody party all day
No work all play, okay
So we sip a little something, lay to rest the spill
Me an Charlie at the bar runnin up a high bill
Nothin less than ill, when we dress to kill
Everytime the ladies pass, they be like (Hi Will)
Can y'all feel me, all ages and races
Real sweet faces
Every different nation, Spanish, Haitian, Indian, Jamaican
Black, White, Cuban, and Asian
I only came for two days of playing
But everytime I come I always wind up stayin
This the type of town I could spend a few days in
Miami the city that keeps the roof blazin
Chorus:
Party in the city where the heat is on
All night, on the beach till the break of dawn
Welcome to Miami
Bienvenidos a Miami
Bouncin in the club where the heat is on
All night, on the beach till the break of dawn
I'm goin to Miami
Welcome to Miami
Verse 2: Will Smith
Yo I heard the rainstorms ain't nothin to mess with
But I can't feel a drip on the strip, it's a trip
Ladies half-dressed, fully equipped
And they be screamin out, (Will we loved your last hit)
So I'm thinkin I'ma scoot me somethin hot
In this salsa merengue melting pot
Hottest club in the city, and it's right on the beach
Temperature get to ya, it's about to reach
Five-hundred degrees
In the carribean seas, with the hot mommies
Screamin (Ay Papi)
Everytime I come to town, they be spottin me
In the drop Bentley, ain't no stoppin me
So, cash in your dough
We flow to this fashion show
Pound for pound anywhere you go
Yo, ain't no city in the world like this
An if you ask how I know I gots ta plead the fifth
Chorus
Verse 3: Will Smith
Don't get me wrong, Chitown got it goin on
An New York is the city that we know don't sleep
An we all know that L.A. and Philly stay jiggy
But on the sneak, Miami bringin heat for real
Y'all don't understand
I never seen so many Dominican women with cinnamon tans
Mira, this is the plan
Take a walk on the beach, draw a heart in the sand
Gimmie your hand
Damn, you look sexy
Let's go to my yacht, in the West Keys
Ride my jetskis, loungin in the palm trees
Cause you gotta have G's for the summerhouse piece on southbeach
Water so clear, you can see to the bottom
Hundred-thousand dollar cars, e'ybody got em
Ain't no surprise in the club to see Sly, Stallone
Miami, my second home
Chorus to fade

at first, i thought the answer was how many time the word "miami" is in this song, but after counting, its printed 9 times, but the chorus is sung teice, so the total is 13 times.
soren thought that it might have something to do with the video for this song, so heres the link:

Honestly, I worry about winning YCW. It's always the beer that does it. I prefer a darker beer. What would I do with 30 cases of Coors? My parent's taught me never to waste anything. So what do I do with the beer?

Jenner's version of YCW they were giving away Bass Ale...mmm....

But Soren probably gets the best beer of all in Denmark. Of course, now that microbreweries are popping up all over in the states, I guess it's not too bad here, either.

See the things I obsess about?

After listening to the YCW segment from yesterday, I no longer so sure it is something in the music video for Will Smith's Miami. It sounded like the guy was SO close with the 11 Spanish words, so I'm agreeing with Doug that it has to be something in the lyrics.

It couldn't be Cuban words, could it?

Bruce,

You worry about getting the beer? Here's an idea. While you're washing and axing your brand new jet ski and harley and your neighbours are walking by jealous, you ask if they'd like a couple dozen beers. They'd not only not be jealous of "that asshole with the new jet ski and harley" but you've just made a new friend!

I am the caller that came close with "Spanish Words". I also happened to grow up with Paul in Lake Worth and attended (or should I say partied!) at UF together. I haven't seen Paul in probably 20 years and like all of you listen to the show every morning and love it. I did not say who I was on air when I got through because, quite frankly, my heart was beating through my frickin chest!

The news of his wife and mother's accident shocked us all and thank God they appear to be recovering. Even though it's still a very long road ahead for them and I know that from personal experience in my family earlier this year. This certainly puts things in perspective when something like this happens especially during the Holidays.

I am very certain that I do know now what the answer is for YCW. I figured out the song part about 3 weeks ago and actually had the right answer but changed it. I really don't care about the prizes anymore which brings me to my point: I would love to see all the prizes auctioned off with all of the proceeds donated to Paul's wife Gina's favorite charity for Cancer Awareness. Now obviously the radio station can not do that for legal reasons but a lucky caller #15 with the right answer can! I know if me or my family and friends get through that's what we're going to do. And my main reason for posting this is that I am just asking you guys and gals on this website that you would consider doing the same. Even just part of the prizes would be awesome! Hell if I win, I might even snatch a couple of the 6-packs of Coors Light! LOL....Anyway just food for thought. I mean after all I practically gave everybody in South Fla. the answer.

P.S. I wish there was some way I could give the answer to only people agreeing to donate part or all of the prizes.

I agree it would be nice to donate the proceeds , as I would not use most of the prizes myself..I actually had the first three answers on day one . I was the one who called and paul took me off the air and asked and I answered and then he started yelling at brancig. so yes lets get the answer and auction the prizes off

yeah giving the stuff to charity would be a great idea. especially since i won't use all those prizes. but you're not the only one who's got the answer. you're the only one who happen to get through .

re: abe post

abe I never said I'm the only one who's got the answer. I said I practically gave everone in So. Fla the answer on air. If you figured out the song and the answer before my call that's great but I think you are more the exception than the rule. But thank you for agreeing with my charity idea!

Steve,

I basically like your idea of donating the prizes to charity but, at the risk of sounding like a selfish bastard, if I were able to win and did (I'm ineligible due to distance) I would pretty much keep them all. Cancer Awareness if a very noble cause and I'm sure I have given money to it at some point. I'm the kind of person who when i walk up to a cashier at a store and they have a thing to donate to I do. Every time I go to PetSmart I donate to animal charities, Publix always has some good cause to donate to, and a lot of other stores now give you the option of donating at the point of sale. Sure there are many charities that exist, the most of which are VERY deserving. However, you can't give everything to charity and not keep anything for yourself, unless that is really your way of life. That being said, if I won YCW I would keep the prizes because thats what prizes are for. I would try and sell the 125+ 6 packs of beer and donate that money, because I don't drink anymore. I think its great that you're throwing out the idea of using prizes to further some good, like cancer research, but you sort of muddied up the idea by qualifying it by saying you practically gave everyone the answer. As for only wanting to give the answer to people who want to donate, if you feel so strongly about making sure this charity gets some money, then pull out your wallet and give, and then talk to your friends and have them give. Thats all it takes.

Jamie,

I hear what you're saying about charity and you are right. As I said I grew up with Paul and was feeling very sad for him and his family and got a little sentimental I suppose. Also I didn't realize that I can't win for 30 days from that call anyway. But I do still stand by my "practically giving the answer away". Sorry if you think that muddied up the idea, but I was just dropping a little hint to the fine folks on this site. I'll elaborate later when I have more time.

Its all good. If that's how you feel then its a great idea for you! As for the 30 day thing, a little hint to the people that call in close to the end of YCW and want to call again (I think there's another guy in the other question #11 thread), all you have to do is, when they transfer you to the intern to get the prize, just hang up. If they don't get your information they can't make you wait 30 days. Now if the prize is good enough and you don't think you'll make it in to get question #6 then take the prize. But otherwise just hang up and call back the next day.
