Everything you ever wanted to know about the show from Paul
Posted by PC on Sep 29 2008 11:16 AM
Ok, I haven't checked the site out for a while...it seems to have dried up a bit. Ronnie seems to think it's because "Big Fat Mr. Ego (me) Paul takes too many vacation and sick days: Reality check as you learn a bit about radio:
We can only take our vacation days in the Summer and the winter rating periods. That will change once we move to PPM's (a new way of rating oiur business). Ron and I have been on the air for 20 years. We have acrued 5 weeks of vacation time. When you have put in that much time, let me know how many weeks you get.
Sick days: I have over 40 sick days coming to me...I NEVER take sick days unless I am out of it and have a fever. When I missed, I was toast.
My wife: You may or may not know my wife is a breast cancer survivor and has had serious health issues, she was also in a car accident in December and has had numerous surgeries since then. Unfortunately, I have had to take a few days off here and there to take care of her and my sons. I hope that's ok with you, Ronnie.
Best of's: Ron Brewer is welcome to host the show when I am not here (like I do if he's out), but he chooses not too.
The convention: If more morning shows around the country paid attention to industry events and idea sharing conventions, they would have successful careers like Ron and I.
Sharp Dressed John got a cool new job, we'd have loved for him to stay but he tripled his salary.
Jenners and Tommy: we loved them, they left. Tommy is doing quite well and we talk all the time. Jenners had NUMEROUS opportunities to come back, even after burning a bridge and CHOSE to stay in Atlanta. I can't help him now.
Reality: With Brancik, OMG and Toast, the ratings are higher than they have ever been. Toast books the guests, Brancik writes great bits, and I'm not sure what OMG does, but everybody loves him.
We had over 2000 people in Jupiter at our Social Friday and we expect more this Friday.
You can't win started today, and Who do You know Famous comes back after Atlantis. Anything else? I hope you spread the word.
Have a Hectic,
PC

It is nice to hear from Paul, himself. I am sorry to hear that his wife is still having problems from the accidents. I agree, that i do not like the best of's all that much either, but everyone is entitled to a vacation. Whether they are back to back or not. It is true, that they have been around a long time and do deserve the respect of people understanding that they need a vacation. It was also nice to have him summarize the events of some of the happenings with the show.
I do need an answer as to what happened to P&YR rewind at 11:00am? Now all I hear is music. If someones know, please write in. Thanks.

Hi Paul - thank for writing on the forum, its nice to hear from you. I already knew everything you have written, you've mentioned all those points on the air. I cant speak for Ronnie , but I doont blame you for your vacation time. I do however blame Brie Miller or whoever is in charge of the show when you do take consecutive days or even weeks off. I understand that the majority of the station is Voice Tracked, except for the AM and PM. However, I think it is wrong to have pure Best Ofs for 5 hours a day for two weeks at a time. OMG, Toast or Branzik (or even Jay Zeager, or Doc Reno or Jen Wylde or Brie M herself) should come on the air to do live newscasts and make your PR 1s feel important. Alot of them tune somewhere else during the best ofs, but a LIVE voice in AM Drive in my opinion is important. Why not play two songs, do a newscast, take a commercial break and come back for the rest of the hour with best ofs. That keeps the Best Ofs from getting stale and the radio station sounding fresh. I'd love to hear your thoughts on that. As for your wife, we all heard her on the air last week, and are glad she is doing better. I know first hand how bad car accidents can be as I was in a horriable crash in late March myself. My passenger friend was seriously injured and thank god is doing better now, but you NEVER forget it and I wish all you guys the best. WEAR YOUR SEATBELTS EVERYONE!!!!!!!

Regarding the 11 am hour...we thought you hated the best of's, so we did away with it! Now you get the music that you wanted so bad, and the best of's will be fresher when you hear them. As far as somebody else filling in while we are out...do you really think that would work? Really? Trust me on this one.

We know that fill in's are not the thing that is the best. But the best of DO get old after a while. What would be nice is just a little bit of live person. Someone that comes on air to give a live update of local things and stuff like that. Knowing that a live person is there makes things a little better.

how about some bits from years ago mixed with a live dj and classic rock?
Question: How much of Ron's comments and making fun of him is true?

I thought the 11:00am hour was a rewind from earlier programming. Not really a best of if you missed it form earlier, as I sometimes do. But a good point was made .... it would make the best of's a little more refreshing. Anyway, thanks for the response back and I still enjoy the show no matter what. Not always the topics, but I have been a listener since the SHE days so it's like you can't stop listening. ;)

Really? It was better when Jenners attempted to do news and stuff? I never ever heard that from anybody.

Ron: After almost 20 years, he's still an enigma. 99% of what you hear is the real deal. By the way, which one of you guys sent Jenners the link to my comments yesterday? We're still really good friends, not really sure what you're digging for. But I must say, "Let it go".

It wasnt me and I am sure it was not Soren either, but Jenners visits this site occasionally and could have found it on his own. And yes it was better when Jenners did do "news and stuff." People on this forum have said that for atleast a year, usually around the time of ur vacations. if you look back through the forums u will see I am telling the truth. And once your PPMs take effect, then u can tell that the ratings go down when ur away, and bringing a Live Person on every so often on a major South Florida Radio station isnt such a horriable idea, and I cant imagine it would cost extra money either.

HAH:
From what I remember, Jenners never did the "Best of Paul & Young Ron." Jenners liked to do the Best of Jenners. Now THAT got old. I still listen to the "Best of", but not for five hours like I do the real thing. And yeah, you put in that much time, get THEIR kind of ratings - you earned your time off.
As for anyone else filling in - no way! Brie or Doc Reno, no one else! I'm much happier with the Best Of, even though I think OMG tried "The Best of OMG" for a while, didn't he? I much prefer the current Best Of format - and yeah, keep playing the old American Idiots, etc. I never get tired of it.
Keep up the great work, guys. If PC happens to log back on here: You've kept me entertained (and given me lots of nice prizes!) since WSHE. Thanks for everything.
Now get back to work, you bunch of ungrateful bastards here, you're not on vacation!!! ;-)

Bernice Im not suggesting they get rid of the best ofs, just have someone HOST the best ofs, that way they can take on air requests and talk about current events in between.
